About

AGES Brochure (PDF)

AGES aims to: a) introduce UP youth to careers in geriatric health, b) to address regional health care workforce needs and c) to increase intergenerational interaction between youth and elderly residents in UP communities.

Piloted in 2006 with seven interns placed at three sites in Marquette and Alger Counties, AGES will host as many as 30 student-interns UP-wide from June to August 2007. Project partners with UPHEC include Northern Michigan University, Michigan State University Extension (UP Region), MichiganWorks!, UP community foundations, UP hospital foundations, Great Lakes Center for Youth Development, corporate supporters and association support.

Individuals eligible to apply for this program include UP students completing their junior or senior year of high school who have a 2.75 GPA and are potentially interested in pursuing a career in geriatric health care or health care in general.

The program covers all costs and includes a three-day, pre-internship orientation in Marquette, Michigan, for all accepted AGES interns (e.g. successful applicants) from June 19-21, 2007 and a seven-week internship with stipend at a long-term care health facility in the accepted intern's home community at partnering sites located throughout the UP.

Program updates will be posted to this site as they become available.
