NORTHERN AHEC AWARDED COMPETITIVE AT&T EXCELERATOR GRANT
Northern AHEC received a $25,000 grant from the AT&T Foundation. The grant will allow for the improvement of technology available to health professionals at the Northwest Michigan Health Services, Inc. (NMHSI) clinic sites. The upgrades will improve the flow of information and staff communications, increase patient access to valuable dental and medical services and retain health professionals in Traverse City, Bear Lake and Shelby, Michigan. NMHSI has developed an efficient and effective primary care program that maximizes the amount of care available for migrant and seasonal farmworkers in Northwestern Michigan. Northern AHEC will administer the grant, travel and train the staff on the new computer systems. "[The Excelerator] is a major philanthropic initiative that connects the nation's neediest residents, including at-risk youth and underserved urban families, to important community resources. The program also empowers nonprofits to use technology to expand the reach of services and to heighten the impact those services have on people in the community."
